Business Days Calculator

πŸ“– How It Works

This Business Days Calculator helps you calculate the number of working days between two dates, excluding weekends and optional holidays.

  • Start Date: Select the starting date of the period.
  • End Date: Select the ending date of the period.
  • Include End Date: Choose whether to include the end date in the calculation.
  • Holidays: Optionally enter holidays as comma-separated dates in YYYY-MM-DD format to exclude them.

Use the “Clear” button to reset all inputs and start over.

With the Business Days Calculator, you can calculate the number of working days between two dates or determine the business date after adding or subtracting a few days. This article shows how to use the Business Days Calculator, which excludes weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). This calculator can be used to determine the difference between two dates or to add business days to a date. Using this module, you can count how many business days have passed in the first mode and estimate how many business days have passed since today in the second mode.

You can find out how many work days you have left until a job deadline, your retirement or even your wedding simply by entering the start and end dates of the period. In the final result, you’ll see all days to the said date excluding the weekends, and you’ll have the option of including the last day of the period as well.

Enter the “end date” field if the project must be delivered by Dec 1, 2025, and leave the “start date” field blank if you are starting today. Click “Calculate” when done and you will see how many work days you have left. If you will be available to work on the project only from Nov 1 onward, just enter that date as the starting date.

In the working days calculator, all days between Monday and Friday are considered business days, except when they are declared as national holidays.

  • U.S. (Federal holidays)
  • UK (Bank holidays)
  • Federal and Statutory Holidays in Canada
  • In Australia, there are national holidays

You will need to subtract the number of days with holidays according to your country, state, region, or religious affiliation from the result you get from our business days calculator if your country, state, region, or religious affiliation differs from the above. Based on your country’s holiday calendar, simply subtract the number of non-working days that fall within the timeframe of interest.

Calculate Business Days Step-by-Step

Business Days Calculator

Step 1: Use the Business Days Calculator

You can use the Business Days Calculator tool in your browser. It features input fields, buttons for calculating and clearing data, as well as instructions for using the tool.

Step 2: Enter the start and end dates

Using this tool, you can calculate the number of business days between two dates. To input your dates, follow these steps:

  • Choose a start date in the input box labelled “Start Date” by typing it or selecting it from the calendar.
  • The second input box, “End Date,” allows you to select the end date for your range. You can type it in or choose it from the calendar.

Step 3: Adding or subtracting business days is optional

Adding or subtracting business days can be done by entering the number of days in the “Days to Add/Subtract (Optional)” input box.

  • The positive number can be used to add business days.
  • A negative number is used when subtracting business days.

When you enter +5, for example, the tool will calculate the date five business days after your start date.

Step 4: Include the end date if you wish

During this step, you can specify whether or not to calculate business days based on the end date:

  • To include the end date in the business days, select “Yes” from the dropdown menu.
  • Select “No” if you do not wish to include the end date.

If you need to decide whether the end date itself is a business day when calculating the number of business days between two dates, this is particularly useful.

Step 5: Calculate

You can get your result once all the data has been entered!

  • To calculate, click the Calculate button, which is a blue gradient button.
  • Your input will be processed immediately and you’ll see a message below the buttons explaining either:
    • Between the start and end dates, the number of business days.
    • If specified business days are added or subtracted, then the new date will be the new date.

For instance:

  • You might find that there are six business days between a start date of January 1st and an end date of January 10th, excluding weekends.
  • The resulting date will be shown if you enter a start date and add 5 business days.

Step 6: Make sure your inputs are cleared

You can start over or make changes by clicking on the Clear button. This will reset all the fields, including:

  • There are two fields for the start date and the end date.
  • Days to add or subtract.
  • Dropdown menu for include end date.

Afterwards, you can enter your data again and calculate again.

Step 7: See how it works

In the How It Works section, you will find a brief explanation of how the tool works, including:

  • An explanation of what “business days” are (working days excluding weekends).
  • The tool can be used to calculate the number of business days between two dates or to find a date after adding or subtracting business days.
  • A description of the optional feature to include an end date.

Between two dates, how many business days are there?

Simply enter the start and end dates of the period you wish to track and you will be able to select whether or not the last day of the period should be included in the final result.

When delivering the project by December 1, 2025, use the “end date” field. Leave the “start date” field blank. Click “Calculate” and you will see how many days you have left. Enter Nov 1 instead of Nov 1 if you’re only available to work on that project after that date.

When is N business days from today?

A number of working days can also be calculated by the tool, or the number of calendar days in N business days can be determined. Simply select “Add business days” mode and specify 5 in the field for how many days to add to a date. It will also count the number of calendar days N business days from today, essentially acting as both a day counter and a calendar.

Changing the “Start date” field will allow you to work with a different date from today. Enter the date and add 10 in the next field to estimate the time it will take 10 business days from that date. Add one day to each holiday, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, if the country you’re interested in hasn’t been listed yet (just choose the country).

Enter a negative number in the “Add” field to subtract weekdays from the start date!

Business days and weekdays

It is defined as any official workday that occurs between Monday and Friday, and includes the weekends and public holidays (including religious and national holidays). There are about 20 working days in a month.

In Western countries, people work Monday through Friday, but why do we have seven days a week?

The idea that a seven day week originated from Babylon and was based on the Moon cycle is disputed by some. However, others believe the Jewish people created a similar way to divide the month for their own purposes. The latter theory is supported by Judaism’s usage of seven-day cycles independent of the moon as far back as the 6th century BC.

The origins of weekdays are unknown; but one thing is certain – most countries now use seven-day weeks, which include school and work days. Generally, this is used alongside the Gregorian calendar, but not exclusively. There are two rest days each week, but they differ between cultures. Sundays and Saturdays are generally rest days, while Monday through Friday are working days.

A one-day weekend or a weekend starting on Friday and ending on Saturday are not compatible with this calculator.

FAQs

How does a business day work?

A business day refers to a day when typical business operations take place. Typically, this includes Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and public holidays.

What happens when a holiday falls on a weekend?

Typically, when a federal holiday falls on a weekend, it is observed on the nearest weekday. For example, if July 4th (Independence Day) falls on a Saturday, it is generally observed on the Friday before. Calculations based on date are adjusted to account for these observations.

Do you have a calculator that can calculate international dates?

In our calculator, we only recognize US federal holidays. It is best used to calculate dates associated with US business operations. For international calculations, you would need a tool that recognizes local holidays.

Are partial business days taken into account by the calculator?

Calculators do not take partial days into account. They calculate full days only. If the calculation begins partway through a business day, it will not count towards the total.

When I have to calculate business days over multiple years, what should I do?

Our calculator can handle calculations that span multiple years as long as you enter the start date and number of business days that correspond to the total period you wish to calculate. Every intervening weekend and federal holiday will be taken into account by the tool automatically.
